RAL/GIS SEMINAR: Transforming Data Access for Visualization, Analysis, and Communication
11:00 am – 12:00 pm MDT
Dan Pisut
Our ability to observe and model Earth has rapidly evolved over the last 20 years, but doesn’t it seem like the process for accessing that data hasn’t? We still bulk download or use very technical subsetting systems that decouple access and visualization. Those systems are often not made for non-subject matter experts, which misses the point of the FAIR data principles. We silo ourselves. But progress is being made.
The Living Atlas of the World is the world’s largest collection of expert-curated geographic data contributed from authoritative sources. It simplifies browsing, access, and analysis and integrates data across multiple disciplines, promoting multidisciplinary research. It also accelerates progress on the Sustainable Development Goals, the US government’s climate action and equity priorities, and the Group on Earth Observations’ initiatives.
This seminar will demonstrate some of the 10,000 resources available in Living Atlas along with the advanced analytical workflows and initiatives it supports.
