In this exercise you will work with census tract level data about food deserts in California.  You will compare where food is being produced to where it is being consumed.

Technical skills you will learn:

• Working with attribute and spatial joins.
• Performing basic GIS analysis.
• Creating a final map product.

This exercise was developed for the BRIGHTE Workshop : Climate Change, Global Food Security, and the US Food System that took place the summer of  2016.

In this exercise you will work with crop data from cropScape data for North Dakota.  You will identify how crops have changed over the years in North Dakota as well as explore climate variables such as temperature and precipitation. 

Technical skills you will learn:

• Working with non-spatial tables 
• Displaying a number of different data formats.
